Two extended programs are coming up here at the library:
PlayK – a 6-week kindergarten preparation program starts here at the library on Saturday, July 22 at 9 a.m. and runs through Saturday, August 26. This program is for children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2017 ONLY.
This summer we will be offering a limited number of kids the chance to come to coding camp.
In Coding Camp, several programming techniques will be used including Scratch, a visual programming environment and Python, a powerful common language. The learning approach will be hands-on with the programs stored on a flash drive to take home. Programming for the Internet of Things (IoT) will use the languages with Raspberry Pi and Arduino single chip computers to control small, wheeled robots and to send sensor and camera data over the Internet.
The emphasis will be on having fun by creating interactive games, introducing Webpage programming and the possibility of app programming for phones and tablets. We will look at the Maker movement and organizations devoted to encouraging young people to learn to program the games, devices and applications they love to use.
This camp is open to children ages 10 to 15, with a limit of 10 kids. The cost for this camp is $50 per kid and camp will be held July 31 through August 4 from 9 am until Noon.
Registration is required. Please call the library at (570) 746-1711
