LEGO club…..

Good morning! We have been tossing around the idea of starting a

lego-club

here at the library, and with the recent delivery of 8,000 LEGOS, we are nearly ready to get started, but we need your help!

001

What we need to know is this:

1 – would you, your children or your grandchildren be interested ?

2 – Do you/they want it to be theme building or free building?

3 – How often should the club meet, once or twice a month?

4 – What day/time would be best?

Please reach out to the library and let us know your thoughts…..

What’s coming up at the library…….

The summer is winding down, the kids are back at school and getting their new routines down, so that means fall is coming…. So, here’s a little information about what we have going on, and coming up, here at the Wyalusing Public Library:

Staff training:

We will be closed Friday, September 30th for staff training. What does this mean for you? Don’t worry, if you have books due, you can still return them in the book drop, or return your audiobooks and dvds in the drop slot at the top of the stairs, as usual. We’ll be back on Saturday from 9 – 4 as usual.

Story Class:

Preschool story class starts back up on Friday, October 7th and runs through Friday, December 16th. Miss Flora and Miss Amy have the schedule, themes and books all picked out, and are working on craft ideas now. Stop on by and join in on the fun!

We would like to say a huge Thank You to all who reached out to us to sponsor our fun – we had enough people reach out we have started a list of sponsors for our spring session next year!

Lights

When you come in to the library, things may look a bit different at times. If you see the lights off in the middle or back rooms, yes, we are aware the lights are off, and yes, you can still go back there…..

In an attempt to reduce the cost of our electric bill we have put motion detectors on the lights in those two rooms, so as soon as you walk in the room, the lights will come on, and they will turn off again a few minutes after you have left the room.

Gadget Club

Now that school is back in session, Gadget Club will be back on. Professor John will be here for Gadget Club from 4 to 6 each Wednesday afternoon. This program is geared towards ages 10 and up, however, we will not turn any age away.

Summer Reading, Community Challenge and more

We would like to take this time to remind you that the library will be closed Saturday, September 3 and Monday, September 5 in observance of Labor Day.

We will reopen as normal, Tuesday, September 6th.

Community Reading Challenge

Last call for all of those who are participating in our Community Reading Challenge. All completed challenge forms MUST be turned in by 6 p.m., Tuesday, September 6th.

The winner of the Community Reading Challenge will be drawn Wednesday, September 7th.

Summer Reading Winners

The winners from our Summer Reading age groups have been selected, and the winners are……

Preschool – Kindergarten: Hannah Girven

Grades 1 – 4: Katelyn Trowbridge

The winning prizes have not arrived at the library yet, but the winners will be contacted to arrange a day to come in and pick up their prize and get their photo taken.

Congratulations Hannah and Katelyn, and great job to all of our readers!!!

Preschool Story Class

Story class starts back up Friday, October 7th and we are currently looking for sponsors. Sponsorship is $30 per class and you get to come in and help, if you would like to. We also advertise the business or family who sponsors that week.

Please contact us if you are interested in sponsoring, and select the date/class you would like to sponsor.

The Wyalusing Public Library is now part of the PA Forward Pilot program.

We have achieved our GOLD STAR – the highest designation in the pilot program!

gold star

PA Forward will promote and benefit all libraries. For academic libraries, the campaign will strengthen the public’s perception that academic institutions provide great benefits to their local communities by sharing resources and services with the community as well as students and faculty. For school libraries, PA Forward will reinforce what experience tells us – that students in schools with strong libraries learn more, get better grades, and achieve higher test scores than their peers without libraries.

For public libraries, PA Forward will position them as essential to a growing customer base of private and municipal organizations and individuals. It will also position them as high-quality early learning providers that ultimately save taxpayer dollars otherwise needed for remedial programs.

Please note – Professor John will be away for the next 2 weeks, so there will be NO computer class or Gadget Club on Wednesday 8/17 or Wednesday 8/24. He will return on Wednesday 8/31.

Financial Literacy

Let’s discuss and take a look at Financial Literacy and a few reasons it is a priority to PA Forward:

Forty-one percent of U.S. adults give themselves a grade of C, D, or F on their knowledge of personal finance.

One in four adults does not pay bills on time. One in three has no savings and does not save any portion of household income for retirement.

Thousands of Pennsylvanians contact the Attorney General’s office each year about credit card charges, finance scams, and misleading solicitations.

Want to know more? Check out PA Forward’s Financial Literacy page at http://www.paforward.org/home/financialliteracy.aspx

While we are discussing financial literacy, do you have questions or concerns about Budgeting or Saving for Retirement?

if so, we have just the program for you…..
